Your little dancer will love this ballet camp!

In this 4-day camp, dancers will have confidence in themselves, dream, and be able to use their imagination. We will read books that celebrate the wonder and innocence of childhood. While envisioning everyday events as wondrous and magical occurrences, dancers will act out and explore imagination through movement. As the dancers are pretending to be fairies, flowers, raindrops and princesses, they are gaining deeper cognitive understanding of each movement exercise as well as greater ability to execute the movements with more skill. The added benefit of ballet camp is that the dancers love doing these exercises and it adds excitement into their summer. Dancers will enjoy developing stories that they can act out such as picking flowers in a garden or flittering through the fields. We will have art projects everyday to go with our theme. Dancers will need a small snack of protein and complex carbohydrates and a water bottle. Dancers will perform a short dance for parents on the last day of camp.

Her story is exciting - from her beginning as an underprivileged, anxious and undersized young girl of 13, to her star status as one of “America’s most groundbreaking ballerinas”, Misty has chosen a life that embraces both her identity and her dreams. We will have a look at her life behind the scenes, watch video footage of her dancing, including The Firebird, watch various interviews and documentaries, read and discuss her 2 books, create an art project, and learn choreography of The Firebird to be filmed as part of our project. We will learn why President Obama appointed her to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, and what she is doing for “the little brown girls” and all girls, as a mentor. Self-Esteem Contemporary Dance Workshop  Age 13 - 18

In this six-week program, join The Contemporary Movement as we examine one of society's most challenging issues, Body Image and Self Esteem. How does one look and feel beautiful just the way she is? What does it mean to be pretty? What does pretty look like? And, perhaps most importantly, how do you inspire the confidence in yourself to feel beautiful no matter what? We will look at the in-depth struggles individuals face surrounding the subject of body image. We will also discuss what healthy body image looks like and how we may achieve a positive outlook for ourselves. Through discussion questions and activities, dancers will have the opportunity to form opinions, develop a voice, and consider what it might be like for others who struggle to love themselves and their bodies. Additionally, dancers will take a stand to say that no matter how tall, short, fat, or thin; no matter the color of your hair, eyes, or skin, it is what is on the inside that matters most. Each and every person is beautiful just the way she is. Dancers will participate in choreographed movement that accompanies discussions. The movement will demonstrate the path to self-acceptance and love. At the end of the six-week session, the learned dance will be filmed and turned into a short documentary style piece that will be displayed on social media. Join the movement, and take a stand to create a nation of individuals who love and care for themselves.
