Ms. Emily Jenks is the founder, owner, and director of Rockland School of Ballet and has taught ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary and improvisational dance to all ages in the mid-coast area for over 28 years. Miss Emily, as she is known far and wide, is known for her unique ability to bring the joy, as well as grace, poise, and discipline of the beautiful art of dance to anyone interested, regardless of age, ability, or aspiration. Miss Emily, also a professional model, began her dance education at the age of 5 in the Washington, D.C. area. and was trained in a wide variety of dance styles from leading professionals in their fields. In midcoast Maine, she has taught many different dance styles from around the world to grades K-6 for the Rockland Area Arts Academy and has taught dance and theater movement for Lincoln Street Center's Act Now Theater Camp. Emily has written and produced two original ballets, 'The Awakening Dream', in 2010 and 'The Frog Princess' , in 2015. She continues to further her education in dance, child pedagogy and child psychology through dance teacher workshops in NYC, Leap ‘n Learn™ teacher workshops, Angelina Ballerina™ teacher workshops, various master classes studying many forms including Dunham Technique, Ballroom Dance, Haitian Dance, and Afro-Caribbean Dance, and also Maine Dance Teachers Club workshops, where Emily is on the board of directors. Emily is a member of the ‘National Dance Association’, the ‘Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance’, the ‘American Association for Health Education’, the ‘National Association for Sport and Physical Education’, National Dance Education Organization' and the ‘Maine Dance Teachers Club’, and is the owner and director of Miss Emily’s Etiquette & Modeling Institute.
In the summer months Miss Emily runs an exciting, educational, and fun Ballet Camp program and is known for her dedication to providing a fun-filled dance experience year-round for children and adults in a positive, safe, educational and nurturing environment.
Rockland School of Ballet is a licensed studio for Leap 'N Learn and Angelina Ballerina Dance Academy. Emily is fully trained in both.
Through Rockland School of Ballet, Emily’s aim is to bring dance, poise, accomplishment, and a sense of comfort in one's body to the world, while providing her students relational, artistic, and technical instruction in classical and contemporary ballet, creative movement, improvisation, and jazz dance.
Miss Emily lives in Thomaston with her husband and has five adult children and one grandchild.
Ms. Sarah Waltz studied ballet as a child, starting at 7 years old and continued through age 18. She studied under many instructors between the years 1971-1982: Margaret Severn, Severn School of the Dance, Camden; Ralph and Jeanne-Marie Robinson, Madam Alicia Reisz, Wykeham Rise School, Washington, Conn.; and Susan Carisle, Cushing Academy, Ashburnham, Mass. Sarah briefly returned to ballet in 1988, then took a 25-year hiatus from ballet until December 2012 when she joined Emily Jenks at the Rockland School of Ballet. Miss Sarah teaches the Junior Ballet Level 2. She lives in South Thomaston with her husband, Ken, and has an adult son, Brandon.
